History

James County was organized in 1871 during the troubled reconstruction period following the Civil War. The courthouse, known as “Old Jim,” was completed in 1913. In 1919, the county was dissolved and became part of Hamilton County. James County came to be known as “the lost county.” In March 2000, two sisters and a brother purchased the courthouse and gave it a new direction–the Mountain Oaks Manor. It was sold to Tim and Sonya Guffey in 2017 and continues to grow.

The Tea Room

The Mountain Oaks Tea Room is located just minutes from Chattanooga, Cleveland, Ringgold, and Dalton in the heart of Ooltewah. Each tea room is decorated in Victorian style antiques from the past that add to the charm of an antebellum mansion. In addition to the delicious teas we serve, mouthwatering soups and salads are the heart of our menu. And don’t forget the dessert!
